Apple Time

Yay for gorgeous, warm weather and time set aside on the weekends for fun. This past weekend felt like fall. On Friday we went apple-picking at a nearby orchard and baked an apple pie later that night. We couldn't have asked for a prettier day, and after getting out of classes and clinical we planned an impromptu trip to the apple orchard. We only had an hour and a half before they closed, but it was more than enough time to pick for just a pie. Isn't it strange to remember how much longer apple-picking seemed to take as a kid? I don't know if it's because I used to eat just as many apples as I picked, or what. The actual picking only took about thirty minutes, so we spent the rest of our time checking out their restaurant, store, and apple barn. We may or may not have picked up a couple bottles of hard apple cider (one for us and one as a gift for a friend).
After that we brought our apples home and baked an apple pie with crumb topping. Let me tell you, once you try crumb topping, you never want to make anything else. I'm convinced that any pie is better with a crumb topping. Plus you can't beat how easy it is to make!

Crumb Pie Topping:
- 1/3 cup of butter
- 1/2 cup of sugar
-3/4 cup of flour

Direction: Cut up the cold butter into small chunks, add sugar and flour, and mix it all together. Sprinkle evenly over the top of the pie. Resist the urge to eat it all in one sitting.

Happy Fall!!!

I really love your outfit in this post. The stripes with that tan vest are perfection! I wish it felt like real fall where I live!
